Feel free to add your floral photo to the comments. This way we can all enjoy everyone’s flowers.
This is my first hydrangea bloom of the year with a few raindrops. I took this photo about 90 minutes ago and , yes, we are cool, cloudy and rainy.

You can buy blue ones but you need to keep the pH the same in the soil for it to remain blue.
From the web “You see, for most French hydrangeas (Hydrangea macrophylla), the flower color indicates the pH of the soil. In strongly acid soil (pH below 6), flowers turn blue. In alkaline soil (pH above 7), flowers turn pink or even red.”
Mine were blue when I moved in here and I love blue …. so I’ve done nothing to the soil.

I wonder if certain bougainvillea are the same. I loved orange ones, but whenever I bought them when I lived in CA, they would turn pink…Perhaps for the same reason. I’l have to check with Professor Google!

The April snowstorm we had in NJ demolished all my leaves and buds. Yesterday I was thrilled to see I will have at least four stems that were spared that might have flowers. The hydrangeas will live…but this year I will not have that gorgeous bloom to enjoy.

Actually it might surprise you. Cut back the broken stems/branches … I bet they regrow.

You are so right…I did do that and they are lovely full bushes, but the variety I have the most of, and of course love the best, bloom on old wood only…so I will have to be content with just the three or four branches that have buds, and see if any of my friends will have some hydrangeas to spare for pressing.

Magnificent and my favorite color in the flower garden. In Vancouver, these plants have heads on them as big as basketballs. Everything there grow HUGE. ❤ ❤ 😀

I was surprised to see how small mine is. But it is the first bloom and the plant is only about a 1/3 of it’s size. Still has a long way to grow.

I also love Hydrangeas. Most of mine are pink. This year they bloomed well. and I think it was because there was enough water for them. If finally rained in California.

If they grow here in Oregon, I’m sure your hydrangeas loved the water. 😀

I used to really dislike these ‘Granny’ plants, Cee. Whatever was I thinking of? Older and wiser now. 🙂

I’ve never really been around them until I moved here. And I was already old teehee … or at least of reasonable age.

So what type of climate does those flowers do best in?

They didn’t grow in Colorado which is colder than Oregon. I would say no real hard freezes for an extended period of time. Where I live in Oregon temperatures can get below freezing but the days are usually above freezing in the winter. If it is too sunny and hot, the flowers will burn out.

I love Hydrangeas. I have three small ones. I know one is blue and another has a pink bloom. I hope they both keep their color.
