Gold Star Award

This week’s Gold Star Award is granted to Leanne at Nihongojapango blog.  What really caught my attention with her post is the way she cropped a photo. She is a New Zealander by nationality, High School Teacher by profession, teaching both Japanese and English in a private school in Japan.  The header photo is also Leanne’s.

Here is her original photo.  She is using the fence line and the people as the line.  I really like the different ways she cropped it.  She used an exaggerated landscape which I thought was quite clever.

Here is Leanne’s various crops.  Here are Leanne’s comments about the three different crops:  The first crop with 3 people doesn’t work. The three people take away from the line of the fence post. They make the eye spread out.  The second crop by itself, turns it into a “nothing Photo” It jus looks like the scraps or off cuts.  After trimming the lady on the left out, the third crop works as a vertical line for me. The pole, the woman and man line up nicely and add form a nice line while still telling a story of a couple enjoying a day out viewing the flowers. Actually looking at now I am tempted to go back and trim the bottom so it starts with the line of three purple Iris.

Note:  CCY Gold Star Award is awarded to one blogger each week and have at least one their photos displayed.  To be eligible for the Gold Star Award you need to have completed the extra credit for the week.
