What was one of your first moneymaking jobs (other than babysitting or newspaper delivery)?  I worked for a New York Life Insurance agent as a part time secretary after school for two or three years.  I really enjoyed working for him.  I left him once I graduated from a vocational school as a Legal Secretary.  I was hired by our local District Attoryney’s department.

What is your favorite month of the year?  I would like to say September because of the dahlias, but it is usually too hot for me.  So I will have to say May.  That is when the irises and peonies are in bloom.  All the trees are leafed out.  The weather typically isn’t too hot and it still rains some here in Oregon.  It is like the best of the best.

What three things in nature do you find most beautiful?  By my photos I picked one would have have to be water.  I think the other two would be trees and the last one flowers.

List at least five of your favorite spices? (excluding salt and pepper)  I adore spices so my list could go on forever, but I will limit it to my favorites.

  • Cinnamon
  • Vanilla
  • Chinese Five Spice
  • Cloves
  • Ginger
  • Anise
  • Minced Onion
  • All Spice
  • Cayenne

Do not give me cilantro or garlic.  They are yucky in my mind.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?  

Last week the weather got pretty hot, so I stayed inside a lot.  By mid-week the weather should return to normal.

Our qigong master has told us to have fresh grapefruit juice with olive oil everyday.  We have tried to use the small electric juicers but they don’t work for grapefruit because they are too big.  Their motors burn up within a week.  So looked for juicers.  What we found instead as a NutriBullet Pro (link to  This is much better than a juicer, the NutriBullet actually turns food into pure liquid so all the nutrition can be absorbed into the body.  I love juices and actually I felt the healthiest when I drank juice from a good juicer machine.  But in reality some of the best nutrition is left in the pulp.  This NutriBullet actually uses the entire fruit or vegetable.  I’m so excited we found this and are getting this.  There are tons of recipes for full meals which includes plenty of protein, nuts and seeds.

My stomach still doesn’t work well and this should really help me absorb all the good nutrition from food.  If you want I can keep you updated on my opinion of this machine.  It arrives later today.

  2. I would love to hear how the Nutribullet works for you. I have an old Magic Bullet, which is getting to the point that it needs to be replaced.

    1. Trisha, do you like the NutriBullet? I can’t wait to start using it. I can see me using for all my food. Maybe not tomorrow, but eventually. I also have very lose joints and eating hard foods like nuts and seeds is a big problem for my jaw. So I don’t chew them well and they never get processed. 😀


      1. The Magic Bullet that I have does a good job with most ingredients. It doesn’t chop greens all that well though, so I think when I replace it I will go with the more powerful Nutribullet so I can make green smoothies that aren’t chewy. The Nutribullet should really help you with those nuts and seeds!


  3. I need to get back into Qigong–before my kidney transplant I practiced it along with Tai Chi and it reduced my BP a lot. Since I have a functioning kidney, blood pressure is no longer and issue but it is so relaxing.


  4. I have always been a fan of fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, but curious about adding olive oil. What does that do? I also love olive oil so am willing to try if it will make me healthier! Thanks, Cee.


    1. You can substitute oranges for grapefruit if you want. But since you already do bitters you should be okay. Olive oil and flax seed oil helps with BP … I know it helps with the heart and blood.


  5. Great questions this week Cee. I’ll forgive you on the garlic one 😉 and give you bonus points for Chinese Five Spice which didn’t make my list but probably should have considering how much I use it.

  6. Cee, we have a huge, clumsy juicer that we never use because it is so heavy and difficult to clean. I would love to hear what you think of this one when you’ve used it awhile. If it’s any good, I’ll get one, too. Thanks.


    1. Juicers create so much garbage and there are so many pieces. This is simply fill your cup and screw on the blades and clean. How simple. Citrus you have to peel but that easy.


  7. please post an update on how the Nutribullet works out for you. I know a lot of people seem to like them.

    I hate cilantro – I think it tastes exactly the same as Irish Spring soap smells.


  8. I would love to read about your ongoing experience with the NutriBullet. I keep seeing it advertised. And I agree with you about using a blender instead of a juicer, which leaves much of the nutrition behind in the pulp.


  9. I love all those spices too, but garlic is my favorite, so there we disagree. I am interested in reading updates on the nutribullet. One thing I don’t like about juicers is the waste fo perfectly good pulp.


    1. The only thing you have to do is peel citrus and take out seeds from a few thins. Otherwise no pulp. So far I’m happy with it. I will be writing a review probably in the next week or so.
