Next time you have a photoshoot you might want to ask the photographer to use a 28mm lens. When they say “The camera adds 10 pounds” they’re not kidding.

  1. My favorite portrait length is 90 degrees. But maybe that’s because my Olympus portrait lens has so a wonderfully shallow depth of field that it makes everything and everyone look really good 🙂

  2. I think I need a course in portrait photography with my iPhone6. My wife is seldom happy with the shots I take. I am much better with my Canon EOS Rebel T3i and my 18-135mm telephoto lens.

  3. Really interesting shot – I had no idea. So which one is the most correct? 24mm or 200mm because the difference between the two is striking.

  4. Wowsa! This is a great visual demonstration of focal length on the human face. While a wide angle lens does narrow the face… most people I’ve photographed I believe would just as soon not have such an exaggerated nose. I’ve always found that about 100 mm is right for an accurate and attractive photograph of a person’s face. Thanks Cee… this is a keeper.

  5. I’ve always suspected that the wider the lens puts on weight. I’ve never liked the group photo that photographers take of our large grade five classes at the end of the year. I’m always at the side of the group and in every picture my face looks really wide.

  6. Great tip! I plan to learn more about photography–I have some talented amateurs in my family–and now all their commentary is rubbing off…okay no proof yet, but I’ll get there. I’m glad to stumble upon your blog, beautiful images and so many wonderful tips. I’m excited to learn more!
