Flower of the Day – August 11, 2016 – Cattails

Feel free to add your floral photo to the comments. This way we can all enjoy everyone’s flowers.

I have always loved cattails.  Here is the best photo of them I’ve ever gotten.  I don’t see them often around here so I don’t get much practice.  I am also adding a second photo showing the cattails and a fountain.  Both photos were taken at Swan Island Dahlias.

  1. Dried cattail flower stems were called “punks” in the Philadelphia area, too. We used to cut them off the plant, syab the stem end in the ground and light them on fire. The smoke they created would keep the mosquitos at bay.
