Judy from Lifelessons blog helped me identify this tree. I now believe it is an African Tulip Tree.
When we bought our house in 2014, this bush had maybe a couple of leaves on it. We didn’t think it would live. This tree is about 4 feet high appeared to have a lot of dead branches. Chris over the last few years, she gave it love and watered it. A two years ago, we got our first little sickly looking blooms. Last year we had about half the blooms of this year. This is our little miracle plant.

That is a fantastic azalea Bush you have. We could never have outside in Switzerland, it is too cold. We can only have the so-called alpine roses, which are also an azalea.

So gorgeous. I’ve never seen one this color before. It does look a bit like part of a tulip tree bloom.

Hi Judy, I really think you are right about this being an African Tulip Tree. I just did a lot of research. The leaves fit it correctly pretty much. The only part of it being an azalea I didn’t like is the entire tree is not covered with endless flowers. So I switched the title of this post. Thanks.

Cee, a tulip tree has a number of these blooms in a huge flower the size of a big plate. Let me try to find a photo.

Ours is still pretty small as you can see. They can be grown up here. What they need is full sun and where that tree is doesn’t get sun. I’ll send you a couple photos I took just a few minutes ago.

How lucky for you to have nursed this orange azalea back to its full splendor! I had tried for years to purchase that color but to no avail. You captured its beauty perfectly.
