Share Your World – July 16, 2018

Since we are approaching the hottest part of our summer in the northern hemisphere, what’s your favorite ice-cream, frozen yogurt or sorbet flavor?  (Those of you who live down under I’m sure you remember what it is like in the hot summer months).

How often do you people watch?

If you had a choice which would be your preference salt water beaches, fresh water lakes, ocean cruise, hot tub, ski resort or desert?

What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week?  Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

Even though I oftentimes will add photos to my answers, it is not a requirement to participate in Share your World.

HERE ARE MY ANSWERS

Since we are approaching the hottest part of our summer in the northern hemisphere, what’s your favorite ice-cream or sorbet flavor?  (Those of you who live down under I’m sure you remember what it is like in the hot summer months).

Favorite ice cream is probably Moca Chocolate Chip.  Sorbet would be raspberry.

How often do you people watch?  All the time, with or without my camera.  I love creating fun stories about people and their lives. I took this photo of a photographer who was working with the little girl (mom was close by) at the tulip farm this year.

If you had a choice which would be your preference salt water beaches, fresh water lakes, ocean cruise, hot tub, ski resort or desert?  As long as there is moving water I would be happy.  The beach would be my first choice.  A big lake because that water is constantly moving.  Remember when I say big, I lived on Lake Superior in Minnesota.   Along a fast moving river would be my third.  Living on a nice houseboat would be real cool too.

Chris and I are on a “self care” mission right now.  Neither one of us have been sleeping well and we just thought is was us not being happy or worried.  We thought maybe we strained a muscle or two.  We came up with a couple of things.  Our recliners which are old all the padding has worn out.  So on Friday we went and bought some new recliners.  We didn’t compromise.  We each are getting different styles.  I picked out one with a wider seat.  My favorite chair I’ve ever had was a 1-1/2 chair width.  I just love the feel of freedom in them.  Chris likes a chair that wraps around her and fits her like a glove.  So we were both extremely picky on what we wanted.

Then the real big purchase was a new bed.  We’ve had a Sleep Number bed for 13 years or so.  We’ve loved it.  But it is now old and worn out.  We went to the Sleep Number store and bought a new one.  We got a luxury mattress and the platform that raises the head and the feet.  The bed felt so good too.  We get the bed in 10 days.  The chairs will come in about is weeks or so.

  1. Good for you for taking care of yourselves. I 100% believe our bodies fight back when we don’t take care of them — I hope your new chairs and bed help you sleep better!

    1. We’ve been living in survival mode for so long, it is nice to start thinking about how to take care of the day to day living. We now have the resources to get what we really want and like.

      1. Fair enough! 🙂
I’m fortunate that ice-cream agrees with me, so I eat it often, though I don’t care much for the super rich brands, and also like making my own with fruit and full-fat Greek yogurt). Flavors change like the weather … 😉 Fun topic, though!

  2. Well, the new mattress has been helping, I must say. I’ve actually been able to get out of bed in the morning. The reclining loveseat is next because it too is worn out. But I need some money first. This has been a ghastly expensive year! But it was not JUST the mattress. It was realizing that I can’t keep side-sleeping. It’s too much pressure on hips that have problems with sciatica. In the course of reading about mattresses, every single post said side sleeping was really hard on the spine, only slightly worse than the real killer: stomach sleeping.

So I’ve been working on back-sleeping which is hard because I have ALWAYS slept on my left side, but after an hour of side sleeping, the pain is really BAD. So the bed is better than the old one and has no lumps of dips, and it’s also better because I’m trying (and it isn’t easy) to do something different. I kind of knew that side sleeping wasn’t working for me anymore, but I was sure if I just got the right mattress or pillow or something, it would work again.

Our bodies change and I suppose we need to change, too.

    1. I used to be a side sleeper, before we had pets. Our pugs used to sleep between my legs so they trained me as a back sleeper. Now that the pugs are gone … our cats have gladly taken their place. 😀 😀

  3. Jamoca Almond Fudge. I constantly people watch.. I’d say its my primary form of entertainment. Hot tub!! I pretty much like all water but bubbling chlorinated water is way up on my list!

Congrats on the new chairs and bed! I’ve been sleeping like crap and coveting the idea of a new bed – except I currently have a luxury bed, I don’t think the bed is actually my problem, and since i’m not working I can’t currently afford to get anything new.

Smiling would be (1) my cats (they’ve been extra silly over the past week) and (2) finishing my first set of training videos for my current college class.

    1. Congrats on finishing your training videos. There are two things we never compromise on in this house …. shoes have to fit and be comfy and mattresses. 😀 The luxury is the lifting bed, which actually costs more than the mattress. 😀

      1. I’ve debated those lifting beds for years – didn’t give it much thought in the past because they didn’t have great mattresses. I’m glad you said you liked your AirNumber… I’ve heard mixed reviews. Since I go back and forth on liking hard vs soft beds, I thought that might be a good thing to try… but there were enough bad reviews to scare me off.

I also (finally) got a nice car, since so much of my life was being spent inside one. But that was more about good fortune than good planning.

  4. You will be so comfortable with your new chairs and bed. I’ve seen the sleep number beds here too but never tried one. They say you should get a new mattress every ten years or so anyway so I think your back aches will disappear once you are sleeping on a new one.

    1. Chris has a rebuilt knee and when we tried out our first sleep number bed, she felt her knee pop right back into place. It was an easy decision for us to buy it. 😀

  5. Yes! I never think twice when it comes to things my husband and I really need. I love that you purchased a new mattress and chairs. These are items that we use daily and I see no reason why we shouldn’t invest in it. 😀
