Here is my entry for Becky’s for July Square Perspectives challenge. Becky featured a great examples of perspective with her geometric floor photos today.
I am using the same photo of a lit hallway in an office building and cropped the original photo to give it a different feeling and perspective. Hint this only works if your original photo leaves enough room to play with cropping. So step back or zoom out so you can play around with the look and feel of your photo.
This first photo I simply squared off the original photo. I like this photo because there are some basic geometry shapes in it, lines, depth, shadows.
In this photo I cropped off the lights and shifted the center perspective.
In this photo I cropped most of the floor and shifted the perspective of the back wall.
Which perspective do you like best?
Now to get you started here are a few perspective definitions;
- Art – the method by which solid objects drawn or painted on a flat surface are given the appearance of depth and distance.
- Geometry – the way that objects appear smaller when they are further away and the way parallel lines appear to meet each other at a point in the distance.
- Point of View – a particular way of considering (looking at) something or the capacity to view things in their relative importance
- Vista – seeing something over distance or time
I’ve put together a list of challenges and their hosts. So if you know a challenge host, please direct them to my blog. Feel free to contact me anytime. I hope everyone will be able to use my lists.

As far as perspective goes from an artist point of view I like the first one.

This is brilliant Cee – I have something similar planned in a few weeks but this is sooooo much better at explaining it. The first two work best for me, can’t quite decide which is my favourite though

I’ve had this photo (1st one) plenty. It was kind of fun to crop it differently. I kind of like them all, but for different reasons. Can’t wait to see yours.

Glad you had fun playing with the perspectives, fascinating to see how much it changes

I like the top and bottom ones best. The triangular shadows remind me of a fairground tent. Very well done – it’s incredibly difficult to pull this off and get the lines straight.
