FOTD – July 14 – A new addition to our yard

Welcome to my Flower of the Day Challenge (FOTD).  During the winter months, please feel free to use your archives and find some old favorite photos.

Please feel free to post every day or when you you feel like it.  Don’t forget that my FOTD challenge accepts gardens, leaves and berries as well as flowers.

Chris noticed this bush starting to grow at the edge of my bearded irises in the front yard. It is either a holly bush or an Oregon grape bush. They both have shiny green leaves. Holly berries are red, where the Oregon grape berries are a blueish-purple. So we will wait to see. Although my gures it is Holly. We have a holly bush on the north side of our yard. We will most likely replant it somewhere else in the yard come this fall.

I’ve gathered a list of challenges and their hosts.  So if you know a challenge host, please direct them to my blog.  Feel free to contact me anytime.  I hope everyone will be able to use my lists.

  1. Sure looks like holly to me. Oregon grape isn’t as shiny or prickly. A lot of volunteer holly doesn have berries. There’s a bunch of it in the woods by my Dad’s house.

  3. I have a huge holly bush in our front yard. Its a good 20 feet tall at the point and trust me, THAT is holly. Shiny, pointy, and eventually, red berries. Birds love those berries!
