This is my entry for Di at Pensitivity101 hosts Share Your World and here is my response for the week.
What kind of vacations did you have as a child? Mostly we went camping both in Minnesota and California. We’d also visit grandparents. My paternal grandparents lived in Chicago and my maternal one lived in Minnesota.
Have any of those remained favourites now that you’re an adult? Yes, Chris and I camped for many years before I got to ill from Lymes disease. We camped at Twin Peaks Campground every weekend in the summer. In the fall and winter months, we camped on the plains of Colorado. Yes, we even camped in the winter. Twin Peaks campground was at 10,000 ft elevation. The twin peaks were 12,000+ feet.

What has been your best vacation ever? We were living in Colorado at the time and took a planned trip to Oregon. It was after that trip, we decided to move to Oregon. We both fell in love with it. Chris managed to get a transfer from work (all moving expenses paid) and moved to Portland two years later.
Do you prefer resorts where there are no kids allowed? Resorts are out. When we camped we either had tents or Pop-Up trailers. Although if we still camped, we definitely would have a trailer today.
Gratitude: I love the quote that Di found this week. Our lives are a mess right now and it is hard finding gratitude right now, I am grateful that my tulips and daffodils are growing nicely both inside and outside.
I’ve put together a list of challenges and their hosts. So if you know a challenge host, please direct them to my blog. Feel free to contact me anytime. I hope everyone will be able to use my lists.

Sorry to hear that life isn’t good, Cee, but thanks for sharing. Oregon looks like a beautiful place to have settled.

Thanks Di for hosting. Things will improve we are just waiting for short-term work disability to come through for Chris. They are taking their sweet time in approving it. So fingers crossed. 😀

Typical red tape. Hope it’s approved………. and back dated!!

Once it is approved it is back dated. It’s just scary waiting to find out.

I know that feeling. Hubby had an assessment 4 years ago and the result was that he lost 60% of his disabled mobility allowance………… all because he could make the OK sign with his fingers on both hands. That was considered dextrous enough to work. The fact he can hardly walk sometimes, cannot sit or stand for long periods, and is in constant pain of varying degrees which keeps him awake at night didn’t count.

You two have been through it. Chris is going for short-term through work. So hopefully it will get approved without a lot of hassle. I tried getting disability (SSN) when I was diagnosed with lymes. Long story, but I was undiagnosed for 28 years and nearly died from it 2 or 3 times. I never did get it. That’s when Lymes was not covered. It is now though, but …..

I can’t claim for a disability allowance with my arthritis and mobility issues because I am now officially a state pensioner.

I was rejected the first time I applied for disability, so I wrote my heart on on the second application. I think it was 30 pages of my finest writing efforts — and I got it. With all the back money. They NEVER give it to you the first time. If you hire a lawyer, they will take part of the back-dated money, but you will get it. The lawyers are very good at this.
We have a friend who had brain cancer and was blind and could no longer work — and they refused him, too. He hired a lawyer and got it second time around. I think I’m the only person I know who got it without hiring a lawyer. I got lucky. They cut you off when you turn 65, by the way. Apparently when you get old, you are no longer disabled.

I loved reading about your camping days, in tents and popups. They’re great to look back on, aren’t they? I can’t believe you went every weekend in summer- what commitment. I’m hoping your outdoor adventures will start again, one day, and be just right.

We were outdoor people back then. We had so much fun. We got to know the camp hosts real well. They were our surrogate parents for years. 😀 😀

You’re both having a tough time. I hope the photos of happier times bring you more pleasure than pain.

Oh yeah, they bring me lots of pleasure. I just don’t have a lot of photos from back then. And the few I have are usually just of mountains or trails. 😀 😀 Long before digital.

I have always wanted to go camping, but I have an aversion to bugs… I would definitely not sleep under the stars. I hope things improve for the two of you soon. Hang in there (((HUGS)))!

We are hanging in pretty well. I have an huge aversion to bugs too. I was stung well 50+ stings as a 6 year old and almost died. I run from them. The neat thing about camping is we are in their natural environment, and they really don’t care about you. 😀 😀 Trailers do help control the bugs though. 😀
