Seagulls – Bird of the Week & Thursday Trio Challenges

This is my entry for Don’t Hold Your Breath blog, Bird of the Week (BoW) Challenge. I simply love seagulls and at the beach I often photograph them.. I often see them in threes. This is also my entry for Carol’s Thursday Trios challenge.

  1. I love your seagulls. They have different beaks to ours, but the grey and white ones look very similar otherwise. The more mottled ones look like our pigeons, save for the beak again.

  2. We get seagulls at our rivers in the summer. I guess it’s not such a long distance if you don’t have to follow roads. You do have different gulls than we do, but they are all unmistakably seagulls! It’s that big hooked beak. They used to raid our meals back on the Vineyard when we ate on the deck. The would swoop down, grab whatever they could and fly off with it. We used to call them “Hoovers” because they were like vacuum cleaners with wings.

      • I grew up in New York and as an adult, spent my early years on Long Island — beach country. Oddly, though, the seagulls mostly stuck on or near the beaches. Maybe the food was better or maybe the tourists fed them. They come here, when there’s no drought and the rivers are full and running trout, from late spring to early autumn. I think they like the trout especially the babies.
