Here is my entry for Algeria from the Life with Alegria Happiness Project.
This week Alegria’s happiness project is all about flowers and how you feel looking at them.
When I was six years old I had a dream, I was laying in a gorgeous wild flower field with color all around me. Little did I know then, that I’d become fascinated by the wonderful world of floral photography. Once I got my first pre-DSLR digital camera (fancy point and shoot), I noticed it had a macro setting for flowers. That opened up the world of close ups and macro for flowers for me. Our eyes don’t see flowers that close up, they are meant to. I love the lines or veins in the petals, the symmetry flowers have. The brilliant colors and combinations of colors. Mother nature is so creative. When I’m in a flower field today, I’m still that little six year old staring at the flowers in the fields with amazement.
This photo is one of the first photos (February 2008) I took that got me hooked on flowers. The detail I thought was remarkable.
I’ve always liked bearded irises. I found it extremely hard to capture their grandness. It took me years to learn how to photograph them in a way I wanted to see them. Photo taken in 2008.
When I discovered the dahlia farm in Canby, Oregon and discovered how photogenic dahlias are, I was really hooked. Photo taken in 2009.
Here are a couple of my favorite photos from this year.

Oh Cee, I absolutely love this post and completely relate to the beauty found in the intricate details of flowers. I too often use macro photography to share their beauty, though I’m nowhere near as skilled as you. Your photography is stunning, picking up the details found in the magic of nature. Thank you for being part of the happiness community and joining in my challenge each week. This week felt special to me too! 💕🌸

I’m so glad you share your passion for photographing flowers. You’ve certainly shown me many of the features you saw, like the veins, the grandeur and have pushed me to try and capture what subjects are drawing me to.

Your first flower macro was incredible, Cee. Every time I go to my doctor’s office and see the flower photos on his walls, I always think, “Cee’s are so much prettier.”

I do that too when I see other flower photos on walls. 😀 Thanks for the compliment 😀
