FOTD – August 18 – Can you identify this blooming tree?

Welcome to my Flower of the Day Challenge (FOTD).  Please feel free to post every day or when you you feel like it.  Don’t forget that my FOTD challenge accepts leaves and berries as well as flowers.

See more Flowers photos on my Pinterest page.

In my neighbors back yard, I noticed this tree or possibly really tall bush last night.  Does anyone know what it might be?  I’m lousy at identifying trees.  It must be close to 18 feet high.  It does go over the roof of a one story house.  This is all I could see of it. (For those who don’t know, I live in Oregon USA, Willamette Valley.)

I would appreciate you continuing to post your entries on my daily post entries.  If you need more information here is a link to my FOTD page.

I’ve gathered a list of challenges and their hosts.  So if you know a challenge host, please direct them to my blog.  Feel free to contact me anytime.  I hope everyone will be able to use my lists.

  1. I see it has already been identified. It’s a beautiful, rich colour. Many of the ones in Mississippi and Texas are getting a scale type insect which turns their stems black, which is a shame because they are such classic plants.

  2. It is a lovely tree/bush whatever it is. Wer don’t have crepe myrtle here in New England because of the climate but it does remind me of some I have seen in my friend’s yard in Texas.

  3. It’s a crepe myrtle. Pretty popular in the South and Mid-Atlantic! Hardy little trees and luscious blooms all summer.

  4. This is just a wild guess so bear with me. It looks like Lagerstroemia, commonly known as crape myrtle. A genus of around 50 species of deciduous and evergreen trees and shrubs native to the Indian subcontinent, southeast Asia, northern Australia, and parts of Oceania, cultivated in warmer climates around the world.
