This woman’s family came to Oregon in the late 1800s. Her family had 8 covered wagons. I took these photos at the Oregon Ag Fest, April 23, 2021.

OMGosh Cee! How interesting is she? I can’t imagine those food stuffs! I imagine they were killing animals to eat along the way too? My biggest surprise was the 25 lbs of salt and pepper! That would be six months of mostly bread, beans and bacon! And an extremely hard trip! Hardy folks! Thanks for joining up again this week! Cady

She said that one wagon was usually just for food. They needed more wagon’s for clothes and furnitures and stuff like that. I would suppose cooking supplies too.

Extraordinary, isn’t it. I remember reading Children on the Oregon Trail when I was in primary school. It captured my imagination and I still remember parts of it, where I can’t tell you the names of the actors in the series I watched last night 🙂

Eight covered wagons? She must have had quite a family. Fascinating stuff. My education about all this comes strictly from ‘Little House on the Prairie’.

Little House house on the Prairie was and still is one of my favorite shows. The lifestyle is fairly accurate if you don’t look too closely. Real life was a lot harder than Little House showed. Times were tough for most of the pioneers and families or family members often times died along the way.

The Little House books on which the show was based were a favorite series of my sisters and me growing up. The books, written by Laura Ingalls Wilder, were completely autobiographical. She used great descriptive language, from her childhood point of view, to describe both the joys and the hardships of pioneer life. When I read The Long Winter, I thought I would never be warm again!

I’ve seen old interviews of Laura Ingalls Wilder and she did say that time were much tougher than her books ever talked about. But the books and tv series were and still are favorites of mine. 😀

She was dressed up for the festival. I think it was cool though that she knew her family history. She was a nice lady 😀
