Bloganuary: What road trip would you love to take?

Part of the reason why I live in Oregon is it’s beauty. One of my favorite drives to take is that of the Historic Columbia Gorge Highway or the current Columbia Gorge Highway also known as I-84. There is a portion that was the original road which went West to East in Oregon running next to the Columbia River. The photos below are from the older Highway.

This photo was taken a west of the Vista House, looking down on I-84 and the Columbia River.

Horsetail Falls

This is my favorite waterfall on the highway. There are several to drive by and see. See how small the people look.

One thing in the winter is the splash from the Falls will leave layers of ice on tree branches and roads.

Multnomah Falls

This was taken a cold winter day.

I’ve gathered a list of challenges and their hosts.  So if you know a challenge host, please direct them to my blog.  Feel free to contact me anytime.  I hope everyone will be able to use my lists.

  1. So beautiful! Places like these will always enchant me. Such beauty in simplicity. You’re fortunate to have this kind of picture postcard terrain in your area. And thanks for stopping by to see my Road Trip post, too 😊

  2. This was the trip Mom and I took several times a week just to get away, visit and wind down after school. We both attended college at the same time and had choir together. Sometimes I skipped the astronomy class I had after choir to go for this drive with her. Great memories. I felt like I was right there. Thanks Cee.

  3. Thanks for introducing me to Vista House, which I’d never heard of before. I have heard the drive along the Columbia River – or a cruise – is really spectacular. Speaking of spectacular, that word also describes Multnomah Falls, or your photo of it. Where did you view it from? Do cars travel that bridge?

    • That is strictly a walking bridge. Cars can drive up to the waterfall area. In fact there is a huge parking lots, a restaurant in the area. It really is a huge tourist spot. There is a viewing point where the water forms a river that takes the water to the Columbia River.

  4. I would love to take my beautiful daughter, Cassandra, along the same trip that I took with my Sweet Beth a few years back. I would take her all the way from Carmel, California to San Diego, California. Along that route, we would take the Old El Camino Real along Highway 1, or the Pacific Coast Highway. We would visit every mission along the route established by Fr. Junipers Serra arriving in San Juan Capistrano when the Swallows had returned. Then after taking that beautiful journey, head straight to Vegas!

    • Great and beautiful pictures Cee. I have driven that route from Idaho all the way into Portland to drive up to Seattle many times. Love and Hugs to you and Chris.

      • It’s fun having it my backyard, so to say 😀 😀 Although I’ve not been there since Covid hit. We just don’t take longer drives anymore. Need potty breaks.
