Feel free to add your floral photo to the comments. This way we can all enjoy everyone’s flowers.
I have always loved cattails. Here is the best photo of them I’ve ever gotten. I don’t see them often around here so I don’t get much practice. I am also adding a second photo showing the cattails and a fountain. Both photos were taken at Swan Island Dahlias.

Hi Cee. I love cattails also. A connection to childhood memories. Love your photo.<3

We call those ‘bull rushes’, although that does look a small variety, the ones I’m thinking of are about 6 – 9 feet tall.

These are probably about half that size. 😀 Thanks for commenting. I love to see the bigger ones.

I have no idea why, but growing up in NJ, we always called these ‘punks.’

Dried cattail flower stems were called “punks” in the Philadelphia area, too. We used to cut them off the plant, syab the stem end in the ground and light them on fire. The smoke they created would keep the mosquitos at bay.

The sounds like a wonderful use of them. As a kid I would slowly tear them apart and then blow it in the air.
