Welcome to my Flower of the Day Challenge (FOTD). During the winter months, please feel free to use your archives and find some old favorite photos.
Please feel free to post every day or when you you feel like it. Don’t forget that my FOTD challenge accepts gardens, leaves and berries as well as flowers.
I’ve gathered a list of challenges and their hosts. So if you know a challenge host, please direct them to my blog. Feel free to contact me anytime. I hope everyone will be able to use my lists.

I promised buds and I took the pictures. I just didn’t get to processing (not much processing except for cropping and reducing the size) until last night. My right wrist doesn’t like me this week and with the brace on, it’s kind of hard to get a strong grip on anything — including the camera. If I don’t do anything dumb, it will be better in a couple of days. No drawing, no extended periods on the keyboard.
There are probably a lot of buds outside, but instead of the beautiful sunny warm weather we were promised, we’ve got very cold — freezing nights — weather and a lot of rain. For all that, I feel spring coming. It’s in the air (yum – so much pollen!) and we’ve got many baby finches to remind us that they have their own schedule.
Much to my chagrin, I have not seen any evidence of tulips coming up this year. They are a favorite of skunks who are passionate diggers in gardens. They eat bulbs.

What a beautiful tulip bud, Cee. How long do tulips last on tulip farms? Here is my entry for FOTD–managed to include some poppies from Cali: https://secondwindleisure.com/2022/03/27/sunday-stills-an-urban-focus/

Tulips should be good for about three weeks yet possibly four. I’m not going this year mainly because the price has tripled to go to the farms. I know the one in Skagit County is just as expensive or more than Wooden Shoe, but I refuse to pay that much.
Wooden Shoe Weekend $20/person
Skagit County $15/person

I usually bought the season pass which 35 or 40 a year. Now it is $60/person. Which means $120 for Chris and I. I’ve got hundreds, if not thousands, of photos from Woodenshoe over the past years. So I’m working though them this year. 😀 😀

Beautiful, Cee! I love that wonderful yellow against the wood. Did you ever see Carlo DiNino’s work on Instagram? He uses interesting wood surfaces for his still life images.

I really don’t use instagram, so unfortunately I’ve not seen his work. That wood is simply my backyard bench. But I can see different wood types would make for some interesting still life photos. Hmmmm

Beautiful bud. Love it against both the grain of the wood and the color of the wood. Can’t tell if that is redwood or cedar, but thinking it is redwood. Would have liked to see the knot that is to the left of the bud a little more and higher to contrast against it. It would be like looking at the top of a bud ready to open, but in the grain of the wood. Hugs to you guys Cee!

That is my bench on my back porch. It isn’t redwood. The stain we used makes it look like it 😀
